Why Alder House

A different kind of financial conversation.

Our approach is built on the belief that people engage better with their finances when the environment is calm, the content is relevant, and the pace is theirs to set.

Small groups, careful pacing

Sessions are kept small by design. Every participant has room to ask questions, revisit points, and work at a pace that suits them.

Written materials, not slide decks

Reading materials are sent ahead of each session so participants arrive prepared. Content is written for a general adult audience, not an industry professional.

Facilitators, not salespeople

Our facilitators are here to help you understand your own situation — not to promote financial products or reach sales targets.

A considered studio space

Our Cyberjaya studio is arranged for focused conversation — a round table, natural light, and nothing on the walls that competes for attention.

Video sessions available

Participants outside the Klang Valley can join individual sessions by video. The format is the same; only the room changes.

Your details stay within the session

Any financial information shared during a session is used only within that engagement. We do not pass participant data to third parties.

Questions

Some things people ask before they contact us.

What is the difference between financial education and financial advice?
Financial advice typically involves a licensed professional recommending specific products or actions for your circumstances. Financial education — which is what we offer — helps you build the knowledge and vocabulary to understand your own situation more clearly, so that any decisions you make (or any advice you receive) rests on a better-informed foundation. Alder House does not hold a financial advisory licence and does not recommend specific investment products.
Do I need to bring financial documents to the sessions?
For the Monthly Money Walk-Through, it helps to have one month's bank statement and pay slip available — either printed or on your phone. For the group programme, we ask participants to read the material sent ahead of each session, but you do not need to bring personal financial records. For the Five-Year Plan engagement, we will ask you to gather specific documents between sessions; your facilitator will let you know what in advance.
How many people are in the Young Professionals group?
The group is capped at eight participants. We have found that groups of this size allow for enough discussion without any single voice dominating the room. Cohorts tend to form a natural dynamic after the second session, which most participants find useful on its own.
What does the Five-Year Plan document actually contain?
The document is typically twelve to eighteen pages. It describes where the household currently stands financially, what the household has identified as meaningful priorities over the next five years, and a small number of checkpoints — actions or reviews — for each of those years. It is written in plain language and printed for the household to keep. It is not a spreadsheet model or a fund allocation document.
Can I attend as a couple or household?
The Five-Year Plan engagement is well suited to couples or households, and many participants attend as a pair. For the Monthly Walk-Through, a second person is welcome at no additional charge. The group programme is priced per individual; a partner who wishes to join would register separately.
Is there a payment plan for the Five-Year Plan engagement?
The RM 4,350 fee can be split into two equal payments — one at the start and one before the third session. We can discuss the timing when you contact us. For the other programmes, payment is made in full before the first session.
What language are the sessions conducted in?
Sessions are conducted in English. Written materials are also in English. If you would find it easier to work partly in Bahasa Malaysia during a session, please let us know when you enquire and we will see what we can arrange.
